Practical Skill Modules:

• Prepare worksite set up for installing, wiring and connecting electrical equipment and control systems, NQF Level 3, 3 Credits.
• Install wireways, NQF Level 4, 5 Credits.
• Install, wire and connect electrical equipment and control systems, NQF Level 4, Credits 38.
• Conduct pre-commission inspection (power on and off) fault find and test new and existing installations, NQF Level 4, Credits 5.

The purpose of this qualification is to effectively prepare learners to operate as professional Hairdressers, equipped with the necessary expertise to perform a range of essential services within the hairdressing industry. On the other hand ,this includes comprehensive skills in hair and scalp treatments, hair cutting and styling, as well as chemical hairdressing services. For this reason, the overarching aim is to ensure that these services are conducted in a manner that upholds professionalism, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Hence, the rationale for the development of this qualification stems from the shortage of fully qualified hairdressers, as the existing structure of fragmented learnerships has led to a decline in professional standards within the industry. To address this issue, key industry bodies and vocational education providers collaborated in the creation of a single comprehensive qualification culminating in a trade test. This new qualification aims to establish hairdressers as recognized trade persons and elevate professional standards within the field.

In recognition of prior learning, this qualification provides pathways for learners to demonstrate their existing competencies. All in all, accredited providers and approved workplaces are responsible for confirming prior learning through an internal assessment process and issuing relevant certifications.

For admission into the program, applicants are required to have a minimum Level 1 qualification with a focus on Mathematics. Successful completion of the qualification involves both theoretical knowledge and practical skill modules, as well as substantial work experience components, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the hairdressing profession. The qualification encompasses various key modules, including introductory studies, hair and skin, communication and sales, hairstyling, hair cutting, and chemical hair services, among others.

Upon successful completion, learners will possess the expertise to deliver professional services while adhering to industry standards and maintaining strong client relationships. Moreover, this qualification seeks to fill the demand for qualified trade persons in the hairdressing industry, while allowing for potential specialization in response to evolving market demands.

The duration of the course spans over three years and encompasses a comprehensive curriculum, including necessary materials, equipment, assessments, and certification fees.
